Our Mission

Provide delicious (and nutritious 😊) meals for our fellow students. The proceeds allow us to buy additional ingredients to then make and deliver the same meal for the homeless and food-insecure in our community.
Through our programs, we work to educate about privilege, and to use our privilege to help others.
We inspire and support others in neighboring school systems to start their own Hopeful Bites programs.

Our Story

Most students at our school face the same lunch dilemma: the school’s offerings are unappetizing, expensive alternatives from local businesses drain your wallet, and convenience stores don’t offer real food. We saw an opportunity.
It started with Maximo and I cooking for ourselves, but evolved into something bigger. We realized we could create meals that are affordable, fresh, and genuinely good. More importantly, we could build something that gives back. For every meal we sell, we prepare extra food to support the less fortunate in and around our community.

Today, Hopeful Bites is more than a lunch program. It’s proof that students can create meaningful change: serving their peers with quality food while making a real difference for those in need. Every Friday order, every Sunday prep session, and every meal delivered represents our commitment to both affordability and community.
You can get involved, too, by volunteering to help with deliveries. Just check the “I’ll help” box with your next order!

About our lunch delivery
On Fridays, the menu will be available online. If it’s appealing, you submit the order form, which will let you pay $10 through Square. On Sunday, Leo and Maximo will cook up utter greatness.
Your meal will be hand delivered at lunchtime at school on Monday. Text us so we know where we can find you on campus.
After you enjoy, enjoy a little extra, knowing that the lunch you purchased will help us make additional meals for the food-insecure and homeless in the Oakland/Berkeley community. These meals will be delivered on Monday evening.
We welcome volunteers to help us deliver these meals on Monday nights. Please contact us if you want to help.
